The Irish coffee is simply a hot coffee added with sugar, whiskey and corrected with a layer of cream on the surface but behind this cocktail there are two stories that claim its “fatherhood”:
- The first says that the Irish Coffee paternity is claimed by the town of Foynes where, into a bar placed into harbour area, this special coffee cocktail was served to warm the passengers arriving from trans-Atlantic crossings.
- The second story tells us that the Irish coffee was invented by Mr. Joe Sheridan, head bartender at the Shannon Airport coffee bar. Mr. Sheridan invented this cocktail for warming a group of passengers: the story ends with the passengers who asked to Mr. Sheridan if he had served a Brazilian coffee, and the barman simply replied: “No, it's an Irish coffee."
